Description
The British War Medal awarded to Acting Serjeant Alfred Joseph Earl, 8th Battalion East Surreys, and the 9th Battalion The Essex Regiment and finally the 2nd Battalion the Suffolk Regiment who was Killed in Action in the Bethune Sector whilst reliving The Gordon Highlanders in the Front Line. 3 Other Ranks were Killed by Heavy Shellfire and 5 wounded comprising 1914-1920 British War Medal, (30508 A. Sjt. A.J. Earl. E. Surr. R.), very fine.
Alfred James Earl was born in Teddington, c. 1898, he enlisted in Teddington he was the son of Mr and Mrs James Earl of Teddington, he is buried in Chocques Military Cemetery in Plot 4 Row D Grave 13 he was 20 years old when he was killed.
