Harry Cornell lived at Newport, Essex, he served with the 1/5th Battalion Territorial Force The Essex Regiment and was Killed in Action on the 2nd of November 1917 in Palestine, During this time, the Egyptian Expeditionary Force’s XXI Corps, holding the Gaza section of the line, had been mostly passive until the night of 1/2 November, when a series of determined night-time assaults were mounted against the Gaza defences. Yet these attacks were only partially successful due to the strength of the garrison. Harry is buried in Plot 29, Row G, Grave 15 of the Gaza War Cemetery,
