On the 10th of April The Germans attacked in force causing the 11th Battalion The Cheshires to fall back towards the wood, chaos ensued in have fighting Serjeant Cheers was posted as Missing, death presumed on or since the 10th of April 1918. His wife asked the Red Cross to look for him twice, once in August, and once after Armistice. But his body was never found. Thomas was the son of Joseph and Jane Cheers, he was a 37 years old, a Fishmonger in civilian life when he disappeared that day, he was the husband of Sarah Ann Cheers of 19, Crimea Road, Aldershot he is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing.
