Description
The Gazala, Operation Crusader, 1st Battalion The Buffs, Prisoner of War Group of 4 awarded to Private William Frederick Burton, who was taken Prisoner of War on the 15th of December 1941 and held at Stalg IVB Mühlberg comprising 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, 1939-45 Defence Medal, 1939-45 War Medal contemporarily mounted for wear, all unnamed as issued contemporarily mounted for wear, very fine.
William Frederick Burton was born on the 17th of April 1911 in Sandwich Kent. He served with the 1st Battalion The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment) as a pre War Regular Soldier, and was captured at Gazal on the 15th of December 19141. Being held first at Campo 59 Italy from January 1942 to February 1943 being given Pow Number 227715, then Campo 53 from February 1943 to September 1943 then he was transferred in October 1943 to Mühlberg Camp Stalg IVB and he was held there until April 1945 whilst in the camp he was employed as a Carpenter.
