John Thomas Gleave was born in Manchester in 1888 he served with the 8th (Ardwick) Battalion The Manchester Regiment in the Balkans landing in the Balkans on the 25th September 1914. He served Gallipoli from the 5th May 1915 to the 28th December 1915. The Balkans again from 29th December 1915 to the 18th March 1916. Home 19th March 1916 to 29th March 1918 then France and Flanders 30th March 1918 to the 21st May 1918. He was discharged from the Army with a disabled soldiers pension for “Shell Shock “. The 8th Manchester’s saw some of the hardest fighting in Gallipoli. Copied history of the 8th’s actions in Gallipoli sold with group.
