(RIC 543 var).

25.37g.

A fantastic brass sestertius celebrating Trajan’s Dacian wars, which had ended the previous year (AD 106). The reverse depicts Trajan on horseback, throwing a spear and a fallen Dacian warrior. This design is also symbolic of Rome as a whole, victorious over a subdued Dacia (modern day Romania), which was incorporated into the empire and became a province from AD 106 – 275.
