William I (1066-87), Penny, Two Stars type (1074-77), Northampton mint, Sæwine moneyer. King’s crowned bust facing, two stars either side within inner linear circle. Legend surrounds and reads +ÞILLEM REX. Rev, annulet at centre of cross pommée over pellet-tipped quadrilateral with incurved sides, legend reads + SEPINE ON HMT, 1.28g (N.845; BMC.V; S.1254).
Attractively toned, with a bold detail in portrait. Extremely fine, as struck.
