William Pitt, the Elder, Earl of Chatham. 1708-1778, Prime Minister, 1766-1768. The Repeal of the Stamp Act. AE Medal. 1766. Unsigned. Bewigged bust left with long queue, RIGHT HONOURABLE WILLM PITT – ESQ. Rev. Legend in seven lines, THE MAN WHO HAVING SAVED THE PARENT PLEADED WITH SUCCESS FOR HER CHILDREN, 40mm (BHM 105, R4; Betts 514; Ford XIV, 374-375). An excessively rare medal. Near Fine, pierced.

The reverse legend, “The Man Who …”, is believed to have originated with a drinking toast.
